What decides the order in Airbnb search
According to Airbnb, quality, popularity, price and location weigh most. Quality includes photos and videos, reviews, messages with guests and the details in your listing. More available dates and a price below comparable listings also improve your ranking. So title, photos and description are an important part, but not the only one.
Photos
Real photos, well lit: guests find what they booked
Airbnb suggests shooting straight ahead without tilting the camera, so guests get a realistic view. Editing is explicitly encouraged: brightness, contrast, cropping and straightening. Anything guests will not find on site does not belong in the picture. Airbnb asks hosts to remove photos where AI or other digital technology has been used to edit flaws, hide damage or add amenities.
That is why TeddyBNB shows you what to improve when taking photos and never alters your images. According to Airbnb, overselling risks disappointed guests and negative reviews.
Questions and answers
7 questions before your first check
Does the check cost anything?
No. The check is free and needs no sign-up. It runs entirely in your browser.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the photos only on your device to measure size, format and brightness. Nothing goes to Teddynews or anyone else, and nothing is stored. Close the page and it is all gone.
Will this get me more bookings?
Nobody can promise that. According to Airbnb, quality, popularity, price and location decide the order in search. Good photos and a clear description count towards quality. The check does not change your price, location or reviews.
Where do the checks come from?
From Airbnb’s Help Centre and Resource Centre; the sources are listed at the bottom of this page. Airbnb gives no figure for brightness, so we use our own guideline and say so next to the result. In a sample of 102 freely licensed room photos from Wikimedia Commons, it flagged the 12 darkest, all of them visibly gloomy.
Why can’t I just enter the link to my listing?
Because Airbnb’s Terms of Service rule out reading its pages automatically: no bots, crawlers or scrapers. Copying takes a minute, and your texts stay with you.
Can I make my photos look better with AI?
Only as far as your place stays real. Airbnb asks hosts to remove photos where AI or other digital technology has been used to edit flaws, hide damage or add amenities. Adjusting brightness, contrast and cropping is something Airbnb itself recommends.
Do I need a registration number in my listing in Austria?
Not at present. The EU rule has applied since 20 May 2026, but according to the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism no Austrian province has introduced it yet. Vienna plans to require it from 1 January 2027; the number then has to appear in the listing, and existing listings have until the end of March 2027. As of 31 October 2026.
All pages read on 31 October 2026. Airbnb may change them at any time. TeddyBNB is a Teddynews service and is not affiliated with Airbnb. Brightness guideline: measured on 102 colour photos from the Wikimedia Commons categories living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and hotel rooms, 31 October 2026.
Created with AI assistance: the texts and the checking tool on this page. The check of your listing itself works without AI.
